It should have been a simple trip to town. I tried to avoid the Wal-Mart traffic this afternoon so instead made a trip to Walgreens to pick up some meds. The wait to have a prescription filled was up to an hour. Okay, I thought. I'll get a bit more of my shopping done. Time management, you know.
1 1/2 hours later I paid for the meds, dashed out to the car. Ah, freedom at last. Homeward bound. But no, not so quick, lady. There's a firetruck and several ambulances blocking the exit. Okay, I'll find another way to the main highway, do a U-turn somewhere and I'm home-free.
Nope. Traffic's at a standstill there. 45 minutes later I found out why. The lights weren't working and were blinking red. Car by car we each took our turn. People coming and going from 6 different directions -- all deciding when it was their turn to go. They were determined. Intense. Downright scary, if the truth be told. The guys in their trucks -- they looked as if they'd just gotten off work. And they didn't want anyone getting in their way. It's Friday evening, after all. They probably got big plans.
Technology. Sure made my life easier today ... The last time I was this excited to arrive home was during a major snowstorm several years ago. Come to think of it, it took about the same amount of time to get home then, too ... and I was only 3 miles away today.
